Your First Massage Visit
Here is what to expect on your first massage visit.
When you come to Athletic Touch Therapeutic Massage for your first massage, I hope to create a welcoming home for you to feel comfortable & safe in so that your first massage can be relaxing and effective.
Arrive a Bit Early
Try not to rush or drive fast to your massage appointment.
Leave a bit early so you can take your time driving. The first time to the office can be tricky to find it, since it is tucked away and very private. Call or text if you need help. 505-332-9292

Wear Comfortable Clothes
My favorites are slip-on shoes, loose sweats, hair back, no make-up, easy-to-get-dressed clothes. Make it easy on yourself after your massage by wearing comfortable clothes to your appointment. You also get to choose what to leave on, so keep your comfort level in mind.
Meet Your Therapist
Online, you can fill out the "intake form" with basic related medical history & a 'body-map" of where you'd like the massage to focus. Next, I'll listen to you about how I can serve you the best. This is the time to let me know about injuries, surgeries, pain, anxiety, medications, etc.

During Your Massage
Always communicate. Please be comfortable. I am here to serve you and I appreciate feedback. Instead of hurting my feelings, consider that telling me about something not to your liking is really helpful for me to know so i can learn and do better. All feedback matters.

After Your Massage
Hydrating after a massage is always a good idea. If you can, try to rest for a few hours. Keep track of any changes in pain patterns, anxiety, discomfort in any areas or soreness. When I contact you in the next few days, that information makes a big difference in how I handle your next massage.
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I wear during my massage?
It's up to you what to wear. Really. You will always be covered with a sheet at Athletic Touch Therapeutic Massage. We use sheets & a blanket, not towels.
You can choose to wear all your clothes, none of your clothes or anything in between. Each person has different levels of comfort. We meet you at your comfort level-not the other way around.
If you are NOT modest, take everything off.
If you ARE modest, keep your underwear on and maybe even wear comfortable shorts & a sports bra.
Truly, we are happy if you are comfortable. We work on Nuns who leave all layers on and we are still able to deliver a great massage.
Bottom line: be comfortable.
Should I talk or stay quiet?
This is your time, so if you want to chat or be quiet, we will follow your lead.
There are times we need to check in to see how you are, if you are experiencing pain or not, or whether you have referring pain. But, besides that, we won't talk unless you want to.
Some people sleep during their massage. It's up to you.
Please communicate anything that you don't like: the music, if the room is too cold or too hot, if your skin is being pulled, or maybe there is too much oil, or you feel sharp nails. Communicate things good or bad.
Can I tip my massage therapist?
Yes. We appreciate being tipped! You can leave cash for your therapist or you can leave a tip on a credit card or check. Though some offices discourage this practice, at Athletic Touch Therapeutic Massage, we are comfortable receiving tips.
