Massage for Runners in Albuquerque

Massage  for Runners can help improve a runner’s stride length, breath intake, arm efficiency, balanced gait, and can heal running injuries 50% faster than rest alone. It seems like massage was created just for runners!

Running is one of the best ways to stay in shape and relieve stress. Running is easy to do, is almost always available, and not much equipment is needed. Though running is stress relieving and fairly simple, running is quite hard on the body.

Once bad habits are learned in life or created from an existing injury, postural problems occur and injuries start piling up. Massage can help a runner recover from injury and can prevent future injuries with regular massage treatments.

At Athletic Touch Therapeutic Massage, I love working with runners-why? Because getting you back to running is my specialty! Working together, we and create quick and long lasting results!

What is Runner’s Massage?

Runner’s Massage is a Sports Massage with very specific massage techniques on areas that are common problem areas for any runner.

Depending on what area is bothering you, we focus specifically on each joint above and below your pain.

Thorough massage around your knee, for example, on all the muscles, attachments, fascia, etc, all the way to the other side of the muscle and attachment.  Same thing for each joint.

Next is finding patterns in your body.  This is unique to each runner.  Examples include: tightness in the calves, behind the knees, on the inner knee area, on the side of your foot, under your foot, on your quad, on your hamstring, in your gluts, in your low back.

Phew, lots of options there, and those are just the most obvious.

After finding and addressing the glaring obvious pain patterns, we look at your breathing muscles and how your arms and neck are responding to your lower body.

The shoulder will react to it’s partner-in-crime across on the other side of your body:  example, left hip area with right shoulder area.

As you can see, there is a lot to fit into one hour or 90 minutes.

Best Schedule For a Runner’s Massage

With any type of nagging, chronic or new pain, the best plan is to schedule 3 1-hour sessions 3 weeks in a row, once a week.

This way we can try to get through everything without rushing while knowing we have  scheduled sessions in case we need more time.

You will have homework to stretch, run less, soak, foam roll, drink water, do breath work and some strengthening and balancing reps during your week.

Keep track of how your body feels, any changes, how you sleep, how your pain is, etc. to make your next massage even more effective.

Another idea to keep in mind is to foam roll and stretch about an hour before your massage so I can get to the next layer without using “massage time”.  Don’t foam roll longer than 20 minutes, and only up to 5 minutes in one area.

After these inital sessions, you will know if you need to schedule closer together or if you can wait inbetween massages.

When you are feeling great, then getting a massage every 4-8 weeks is great.

Type of Runner’s Massage

There are several types of massage that support a runner’s body so they can keep running.

Common issues to stop their running often include fatigue after hard training or several races close together, injuries after a fall or mis-step, or weird tweaks that happen to their bodies over time.

If you are not able to come to Athletic Touch Therapeutic Massage in Albuquerque, then I have some ideas and suggestions of what to ask your massage therapist or who to look for.  Look below for suggestions.

Problem Solving for Runners

Do you have stubborn chronic pain that affects your running? I love hard to figure out chronic pain! It’s like a puzzle.

A Problem Solving for Runners Massage is just that: finding the pain center and easing it from there.  Finding the pain is easy, it’s figuring out where it’s coming from that’s a key to relieving chronic pain.

Is it the way you are landing on your big toe? Or maybe the way you pull your elbow in when you breath while you’re running? Where are you tight, strong, weak, etc.

Together, we will try to solve the mystery of your pain. The first session takes at least 90 minutes. Give me a chance to show you a different perspective on possible causes of your pain.

To make this appointment or buy this treatment online, choose “Sports Massage for 90 minutes”.
